# Non-Custodial Wallet

A non-custodial wallet provisioned by Privy.

Matrix creates a self-custodial wallet for you when you sign up. It's called your Matrix Wallet, and it's yours: Matrix cannot access your keys, hold your funds, or move your assets. Your Matrix Wallet is powered by [Privy](https://www.privy.io/), a wallet infrastructure provider used by many leading crypto apps, including Hyperliquid.

#### What Non-Custodial Means

A custodial service (like a centralized exchange) holds your assets for you and controls the keys. A non-custodial wallet is different: you control the keys, and only you can authorize transactions.

Your Matrix Wallet is non-custodial. Matrix is the interface you use to trade; it is not a bank, exchange or custodian. Your assets sit in your wallet and in the trading venues you choose, never in an account controlled by Matrix.

Because your wallet is self-custodial, no one can recover your assets for you if you lose access to your account and have not saved your key.
